Dear Center School Community,
So much has happened in the 48 hours since I last wrote to you. Even in the last hour or so, things have drastically changed. How are you all holding up? I am with you, and sending you all strength and love.
You may have seen the news that Gov. Baker announced this evening that all elementary, secondary, and private schools in Massachusetts will be closed until April 7th. So, we have shifted our return date to at least then, and we imagine this date could move even later. We will continue to assess what needs to happen for the safety and wellbeing of our students and community and keep you well briefed.
I saw some of you when you came to pick up your children’s things at school, and I have been seeing (virtually and in person) our staff and planning for the weeks ahead. This is a mammoth task. Each possible scenario requires thinking through, as well as a ton of research and dialogue. From lesson planning for online learning, to cleaning the school, to producing and distributing learning materials, such as books and folders, to families, the discussions are humming along and there is progress. Preschool families, rest assured, we are thinking about ways to serve you and your Littles! Thank you for your patience. We have some options nearly ready to share with you.
In the meantime, we will be open tomorrow morning as promised, from 8am-9am, for anyone who needs to come grab rain gear, lunchboxes, etc. The Kindergarten backpacks will also be ready to pick up then. You can also choose to wait, because we are envisioning other opportunities to come get belongings, as well as school materials related to remote learning (for certain classes and groups, as determined by teachers) later this week and beyond. In order to make these things available to families over a longer period, we will have a distribution procedure that allows for adequate social distancing (perhaps even a drive-through or delivery service! Lots of ideas are being explored). The school buildings will be officially closed to visitors from this Tuesday, March 17th, on, except for any specially coordinated materials distribution the school feels is necessary.
I am wishing you all a safe and sane few weeks and will be in touch with you regularly. As always, please keep in touch with questions, concerns, feedback and suggestions. We learn so much from having this incredibly brilliant and thoughtful community behind us.
