In formulating the Center School Technology Plan (2008-2011), we looked to several documents for guidance. Specifically, we consulted:
Educational Technology Advisory Council Massachusetts STAR (School Technology and Readiness) Chart (http://www.doe.mass.edu/boe/sac/edtech/star.xls);
Draft Revised Massachusetts Recommended K-12 Instructional Technology Standards (http://www.doe.mass.edu/edtech/standards/itstand_draft.doc); and
ISTE’s National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (http://cnets.iste.org/teachers/t_stands.html).
Additionally, Greenfield Center School used the frameworks and standards enumerated in the Technology Foundation Standards for All Students (http://cnets.iste.org/students/) as a guide for planning, implementing and evaluating technology-based activities to support student learning, communication, and life skills.
The National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) are listed here for reference:
- Students demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operation of technology systems.
- Students are proficient in the use of technology
- Students understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology.
- Students practice responsible use of technology systems, information, and software.
- Students develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.
- Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.
- Students use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology-enhanced models, prepare publications, and produce other creative works.
- Students use telecommunications to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences.
- Students use a variety of media and formats to communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences.
- Students use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.
- Students use technology tools to process data and report results.
- Students evaluate and select new information resources and technological innovations based on the appropriateness for specific tasks.
- Students use technology resources for solving problems and making informed decisions.
- Students employ technology in the development of strategies for solving problems in the real world.
Greenfield Center School strives to offer students and staff the tools they need to access information and communicate effectively. Integrating technology is key to successful goal implementation. We view technology as a collection of tools to be used in the classroom in the normal course of everyday instruction, rather than as a collection of tools to be mastered in a computer lab setting. Computer tools are not treated as a separate and distinct subject. They are the means by which students improve and broaden their learning skills and knowledge.
Our technology priorities are to:
