Summer Work for Students at GCS

It is our tradition to have students do summer work. In the 3rd through 6th grade, that takes the form of reading and writing. In the 7th and 8th grade, we continue to ask them to do reading and we add a project component. Here are middles summer assignments for the 2008-2009 year.

Middles-Fourth Grade

June 11, 2008

Dear Fourth Graders,
We hope that your summer is off to a great start! We’re trying to pull ourselves back out of the puddles we became over the very hot weekend we just had. Our fingers have solidified enough for typing which is lucky for you because it means we can send out your summer reading assignment! Yeah!

We know many of you do lots of reading over the summer as we do. The reason why we ask you to record some of this reading is so we can get to start to know you when we meet in August. We love seeing what books you’ve chosen to read and the pictures of the characters you have drawn. This summer we need you to read at least 5 books and do a report on 3 of those five books. If you have a hard time picking out books to read, last year’s Middles created a recommended book list and I’ve attached it to this letter along with three report forms. Feel free to use the list or choose books you know you’re interested in. If you have any questions or misplace your book report forms at the beach (what a tragedy!) you can get more, either off the school website or call the office and someone can mail them out to you.

Now, get on outside and read a book in a tree, while floating down a river or sitting in the shade of a gigantic cow! We look forward to hearing all about your summer adventures in August!
The Fourth Grade Team
