It is our tradition to have students and staff do summer reading work.
Assignment for 7th & 8th grades

Dear 7th Grade Uppers,
Hopefully your summers are off to a great start! We teachers have put together some summer work for you; this work includes reading, writing, and a project.
When you have checked out your reading assignment on this page, click here to go to your project assignment.
READING ASSIGNMENT
Please choose any two (2) of the following books to read:
The Outcasts of 19 Schuyler Place, by E.L. Konigsburg
Into Thin Air, by John Krakauer
What the Moon Saw, by Laura Resau
Summerland, by Michael Chabon
The Candyshop War, by Brandon Mull1. Go to the bookstore and purchase your two books. Feel free to read more than two if you so desire.
2. Read each book.
3. Answer the following questions, in writing, for each book. All answers should be in paragraph form and proofed for spelling and grammar.
- What would you say is the theme, or the main idea, of this book? Keep in mind that there may be several themes.
- Write in detail about one important conflict that occurs in this book. How do the characters work together to resolve this conflict? Does the conflict get resolved?
- Name three of the characters in this book, and describe what kind of people they are. Do any of the characters change the way they act or think throughout the course of the book? Describe this change and write about what caused it to happen.
- Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
