Greenfield Center School
Card Project (2001)

Created in the weeks following the terrorist attack on September 11th 2001, these compelling works of poetry and art by 7th and 8th graders at the Greenfield Center School express student hopes that a more peaceful and compassionate world will emerge in the wake of senseless tragedy.

To cry is to breathe on a day like today.
But the breath we take
And
The tears we make
Are only of hope and love.
And thoughts that we send out
To the families that lost a loved one today.
...Dana

Dana's poem appears on note cards illustrated by Clementine, Michelle, and Hannah.

They watch.
Horrified.
What can they do?
Who can they blame?
Nothing.
Nobody.
Yet.
Why?
How?
Run.
Don't think.
Don't watch.
Just run.
Don't look up
Don't look back.
Just run.
Wonder.
Are you okay?
Are they okay?
Is this the end?
The beginning?
Can you help?
You can try.
But how?
Nobody can care yet.
Just hope
And the next day will come
