The Center School Parent Union

Dear Families,

As the board liaison to the Parent Union (the Center School version of a PTO) I focus on community building, and helping people direct their energy and resources to support the school. I meet with Charlie, the head of school, in late summer to set the goals and calendar, and then throughout the year we work to match people’s talents and abilities with the tasks at hand. It is simply amazing how much we accomplish each year with minimal resources, simply because of the ongoing generosity of family and friends.

How can you get involved? Good question!

We’ll start with getting a list of volunteer jobs to everyone at Open House (back to school night).  In addition, read the weekly bulletin.

The events for the upcoming year are outlined below, but details and dates will continue to evolve. I look forward to meeting you at all-school, at an event, outside the classroom, on the playground, in the carline, at Rumpus, on a field trip, or at a work day...

Sincerely,
Kirstin Oxboel

PARENT COFFEES These are monthly

socials usually held in the brick building

AfterSchool room, and advertised in the bulletin as well as a car-line sign. Another place to meet parents and check in with the Head of School.

ALL SCHOOL WELCOME October 13. This is what other schools call Back to School Night. We have classroom time and also a gathering of all parents with the Head of School.

FALL WORK DAY October 22. Mike, our caretaker, does an amazing job keeping our school beautiful and functioning. But each spring and fall the Building and Grounds Committee identifies a few of the giant tasks. Last fall we spread ‘mulch mountain’ over the entire playground! Many hands make light work.

GRADUATION DAY Friday, June 8th. For all but the youngest students and all community members, graduation day is an important time to say goodbye to the 8th graders.

This is NOT a comprehensive calendar. Teachers will keep you up on

classroom events. The Bulletin will be filled with dates ranging from Uppers Project Night to school picture day. These are mainly parent-run events. If you can help, call the office at 773-1700, email info@centerschool.net, or leave a note with Amanda in the school office. Thank you!
